Digi pack

To create out digi-pack, we decided to keep the same colour scheme and logo as the poster. This means that people who see the poster can find the product easily as they will recognize the style of it. We thought it was important to include stylish images of the band members and also the song lyrics, which is a key feature in most digi-packs and c.d.'s sold. The difficulties we came up with whilst creating the digi-pack was getting the sizes of the images equal. We used the size tool to make sure that each image was equal and that they all fitted on the digipack. We thought that style was importaint and it took us a while to be able to get the lyrics on without them looking messy or unprofessional.

My Audience

Our audience are mostly from the 'indie' scene. We believe they would be older teens to young adults due to the fact that this music is normally aimed at this age. The rock/indie music appeals to a lot of young people as it is considered cool. Thinking of clothing and props in our video we looked to a typical indie bar. The clothes are mostly casual but with some style and hair and makeup was very modern. Most young teens and adults like to go out to bars and drink something we thought was important in our video. To get the full image right we looked to popular teenage cultures such as the British tv show 'Skins'. We looked at the way the characters behaved, what they wore and where they liked to have fun. We also looked at other indie bands similar to Jet and made comparisons in the style of their music. Indie music is normally very upbeat and is related with alot of modern rock music.

Call Sheet for Time and Tide

Our call sheet is basically planning where we are going to film, what kind of cast we need, props and costume. We did not need a lot of props because our music video is based on different people interacting rather than props or symbolic objects. The costume is the type found on a typical night out and the club is very modern and the type of place that young adults hang out in. We believe it fits in with the mise en scene of the song as it is very modern, stylish and the characters in the video can relate to the young people who would listen to this genre of music.

Advertising Poster for Jet Band

We decided that we wanted to keep with the same red and black theme as the logo and the digipack cover. The logo at the top has the same colour and shape as the side borders. The image of Nick holding the mic shows that the band is all about the music, the costume and the stern face gives an impression of a cool rock band. At the left side, all the information relates to that of a typical band poster and gives advertisement not only for the c.d. but tour dates that a band would have up. The presence of the song 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' gives an advertisement boost as fans who like that song would be inclined to purchase the whole album. The poster is brought out by the bright colour of the red so that it stands out more however the blacks and the cartoon effect on Nick shows that the band is modern and stylish.

Animatic

This animatic follows the story that we wish to do in our music video. We made sure that the timing was all accurate and the shots go with the beat of the music. We believe that this is as accurate as it can be although something we would improve would be the images because sometimes they lack detail. We will be relating back to our animati when filming to keep on track and to know what we have filmed and what we need to film.

Permission for Track

We decided to email the band Jet in order to make sure that we were allowed to use their track. We decided to ask them in a formal approach if we can use their song 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' in our music video for our project. As it is an educational purpose, we believe that Jet will have no problem letting us use their song.

Music Video Ideas

Our ideas sheet is a group effort which gave us a good brainstorming session to really think about what genre, and style we should have .

Band Posters

This is an old poster of Tegan and Sara (right side) when they were touring the 'Con' a successful album back in 2004. It follows the theme of the album cover as an old paper back story. Due to the sketches you can imagine the band being quite 'Indie' and unusual and the plain simplicity represents a slightly acoustic sounding band.
The poster to the left of this is the latest poster released by the band i 2010, They keep their names yet their faces are less prominent due to the fact that their fans will automatically recognize their names and their band. You can see that the band has matured ad become more sleek and modern because the poster is more professional.

DigiPack Analysis

This digipack is very simple in its design. The cover and the back has this sort of vintage design,
with the grainy cream colour for the background with empty frames on the back and a butterfly on the front which looks like its pinned to the cover. The inside booklet follows the same sort of imagery. Since this was a completely new CD Paramore produced, i believe that the title 'brand new eyes' links in with the butterfly image since they evolve from a bug and so it represents a new life and a fresh start, which could be what the band are aiming for. The fact that the bands name is bigger than the title indicates to me that the band still uses their name to pull people into buying their CD, however the image is bigger than the title and the band name which shows that the band are known well enough to be recognized just by the imagery on the cover of their CD's.

Ellie Goulding - Lights

This digipack is ta
ken from Ellie Gouldings new album Lights. Seen as the album is the first one she has released, Ellie is featured on the front to take up the entire cover. this is done so that people recognize the new artist and can find her cd by looking for her image. The title 'Lights' and her name in bold letters are wrote in a gold coloured text, relating to the titles name of being very light and bright. This can also be related to Ellies second name Goulding. I believe this track will appeal to young girls and teenage boys because of the imagery of a beautiful woman and also fans of her music can recognize her.

Evanescence

The Evanescence album work illustrates a certain look for the band. It fits into the gothic/rock type music with the door appearing spooky and the lead singer Amy Lee in an old gothic type dress. The title 'Open Door' relates to the imagery of an open door on the other side of the cover, which is perhaps symbolic to the band that hey are opening a new door for their new album to take off. The font used for the name of the band and the title is also very gothic but very beautiful, much like the lead singer of the band who is featured on the cover, possibly for fans of Evanescence to recognize that this is the bands album. The cover is very attractive and eye catching to bring in new fans who may buy this album because it looks good.

Shot Count Task

In this music video by Tegan and Sara, there are a total of 142 shots. The video last for two minutes, which is relatively short for an average music video. It was very hard to actually count all of the shots and i had to do it twice to make sure i had the correct count. The music is very fast paced, and each beat matches a switch with the cameras and cuts. There are many close up shots of the main singer in the video as well as medium shots, picturing them playing their instruments. The wide shots are few and far between because the set of the music video is in a very enclosed space. The actual video features the walls covered in posters of the band from previous albums and songs, this could represent them playing new music and getting a new image. ripping the posters down show that they want to change.

Warhol

We created our Warhol's by first taking a picture of ourselves. Using an editor tool we made our faces look more cartoon like and decided on the amount of layers we wanted to be broke up into. After this we coloured ourselves with one strong colour to make the picture seem more animated, bright and colourful.

Friday, 21 May 2010

We created images of ourselves using a photo on Apple Photobooth and turning it into a cartoon in PhotoShop Elements. W had to create a number of layers for each part of our image including face, hair, neck, top and arms. I found it quite difficult at first because i wasn't use to using this software however i soon picked it up and got through the task quickly. For my first time using this software, i think i have done quite a good job as it looked a bit like me. I had trouble doing the hair because i found it hard to make it look like my original curly hair. However i did the hair again and on the second attempt i think i did a bit better.
